Welcome! In the Netherlands, travelling by public transport is easy. You don’t need to arrange anything in advance. Easily check in and out with your contactless debit or credit card and your mobile phone. This allows you to travel conveniently to the best places and sights in Rotterdam, The Hague and the surrounding area. Read how this works below.
Check in and check out: this is how it works
- Hold your debit card, credit card or mobile phone up at the card reader to check in. If you are travelling in a party, everyone needs to check in and out individually with a different debit card.
- Have you arrived? Check out the same way. Always use the same card or phone you used for checking in.
- Payment is made automatically. The next day, the amount paid will show up in your bank statement with the description NLOV.

Which payment cards are accepted?
You can check in and out with:
- a contactless debit or credit card with the Maestro, V PAY, Mastercard or Visa logo;
- a mobile phone with Apple Pay or Google Wallet, linked to a debit or credit card with the Maestro, V PAY, Mastercard or Visa logo.
Tip: remove the card you use to check in or out from your wallet. This ensures that the card reader recognises the right card and that you pay the right amount for your trip.
How does traveling with children work?
Children up to and including age 3 travel free and do not need to check in or out. Children aged 4 up to and including 11 need their own ticket. You can buy individual tickets in the carrier’s app. It is not possible to check in more than one person from the same bank, debit or credit card.
